Alice Allan MA, MSc, IBCLC, Cert. Childbirth Education.
International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) are highly experienced, trained and qualified to help parents and babies to breastfeed. They are knowledgeable in all areas of lactation and can help with both basic and complex breastfeeding challenges.
I offer empathetic and skilled support to help you to meet your breastfeeding goals.
Online and face to face support in North Surrey and East Berks.
I trained as a peer supporter with the Breastfeeding Network before qualifying as a La Leche League leader and an IBCLC in 2010 (recertified 2015 and 2020). I worked on the postnatal ward of the Whittington hospital and did community home visits in North London. After moving to Ethiopia, I ran popular support groups for breastfeeding mothers in Addis Ababa and worked as a lactation consultant in a large teaching hospital, training doctors and midwives about lactation. I trained staff of Action Contre la Faim in remote locations across Ethiopia, as well as teaching the breastfeeding module of the Midwifery course at the Hamlin Midwifery College. I am a qualified antenatal teacher, and regularly volunteer on the National Breastfeeding Helpline. I have written extensively about breastfeeding, including for Breastfeeding Today, Women’s Health, WBTi and Midwives Magazine. I have two daughters and live in North Surrey.
I can support you through a range of breastfeeding issues including sore nipples, blocked ducts or mastitis, worries about your supply or your baby’s weight gain, thrush and reflux. I can help you to latch your baby and offer support with relactation, induced lactation, feeding twins, and breastfeeding premature babies and babies with special needs, including tongue-tie.
I offer home visits in addition to online support.
Antenatal breastfeeding session
I offer antenatal classes for individuals and couples that cover everything you need to understand how breastfeeding works, get feeding off to a good start and avoid common problems.

“Alice has been an invaluable asset in my journey into motherhood. Although I had always wanted to breastfeed, I don’t think I would have been able to do so for as long or as well without her well-informed support and encouragement.” Sehin
“As a lactation consultant Alice gave us such amazing support as well as just the general reassurance an emotional and exhausted new mother needed. Her help got us through those early tough days and continued until we were completely comfortable” Jo
“Alice was and still is the one person I go to when I have questions on breastfeeding or any other mother related challenge. She has helped me sorting out questions from what to do when my daughter seemed to prefer one breast more than the other to how to introduce discipline without distress but as a caring and loving parent. Alice’s advice and information has been extremely useful in helping me define the type of mother I am and want to be.” Jymdey
